Description of Present Disaster (conti.) Most beef producdrs do not feed any kind of feed during the period of May until the end of September except for pasture; however, due to the shortage of pasture some producers have grazed their hay fields and will be short on hay this winter; thereby, causing the already allor t supply of hay to be hard to get this winter and the price .t.q be 11!,Ilter. Hog producers are having to pay high prices for feeding rations due to short.corn crop with ani increase of 20% in the price from 7-5-74 to 8-26-74 and pig starter increase of 14% for the same period. Some operators are going out due to high interest rates, low prices on cattle, milk, and hogs, and high input prices. This is harder on the farmer that got in three or four years ago due to feed suppliers and banks cutting off credit and requiring cash for feed and supplies due to low prices for the livestock. The local economy will suffer more in three or four months due to less money-being received for products because of lower quality and less money to spend for agricultural in- puts. Producers generally cull about 10% of their herd but are culling about 20% at the .present time with more culling in the future if feed does not become available. Most producers are culling mature stock and keeping replacement because they consume less feed. Hog producers are selling a large amount of pigs, sows arid+'more gilts than normal; also, e selling 4 finished hogs. Dairy .producers are drying cows up 30 to 60 days earlier than normal to save feed. - , If this feed program is approved for 'Christian County it would prevent a lot of ··farming operations from going out of business due to the fit.ancial help and the extra feed supply for their livestock. If this program is not approved there will be a lot of marginal farmers 1090 tholn. farming oporations r1110 to tho drought conditionm ununing Lhe feed along with other inputs to increase in price.. · 52 i 0?>43:*L·:Mt'4*4<:t*;322>.21*.'·%*.4.','Eficitpa'gi)?42*.tZ·..w:,6,i-,1{;jfit,.,2,2Zirti:f It: C..5-4..54:*4,33*Shii 'AREW i"p· i/:.i'·1 42 f:. *:1./to?::.P Ji?9·'f'*rLi.2*6;-,44&4**4.44#2+*v'.1 . t,·I'<' ·t.;·· · -·upj!4 . :.·· h'1:i' i·'i.'·' .t': ·4:..+ •: / i.t·?: ,3.4,; 444.,i,11<.dti,4,·.Ig 4,sk:..i:- *425! ff-lif; Tiy#ir·. 9 4*, :.0.fj·1'·f m,4 3:51,·' 4%61·' 2.93.412...;.it f. %1*,itir.a**RK*id68;A#A-*%*4*4444*jy*t,.f,.I;,tjj:- '- · ·.,·.·i..,,.'fi,Qf.·14:4,1.i).191'4.9.
